There were a number of questions around nature or nurture? Can someone just be naturally resilient? Are we born with resilience and it is lost during adverse experiences or is it a learned behaviour? Isn’t it as simple as some have it and some don’t? Is resilience a personality trait? Are resilient children naturally resilient adults? (Is there any research showing that?)

I don’t know if ‘learned behaviour’ is the right term. What I have observed is that people can become more resilient if they have opportunities to learn from experience (and often, learn from each other) and support to reflect and apply what they have learned

SSN replies - At the event Brigid answered that there was evidence suggesting that different individuals, with their different temperaments (which even very young children exhibit) respond differently and exhibit different levels of resilience. However resilience is not set and can be developed, learning new ways of coping but it is important to go with the grain of who you are.
